1. Kenny's Gelato
Several locations around Stockholm, including Sergelterrassen, Sickla, and Djurgården. Ice cream master Kenny Mattsson, who won the title “Ice Cream Master of the Year” in the Swedish Ice Cream Championships in 2022, makes 12 fresh gelato and sorbet flavors every morning. Here you will find both classic and playful flavors such as salted caramel, lemon pie, and wild strawberry-prosecco sorbet. You will also find delicious vegan options here.
2. Betsy Sandberg Chocolate & Ice Cream
Östermalm Market Hall and shop in Lidingö city center. Betsy Sandberg's origins lie in chocolate-making traditions dating back to 1926, and since 2016 they have also been making their own gelato and sorbet. Betsy Sandberg's Chocolate & Ice Cream has won several bronze medals and one silver medal in the Swedish Ice Cream Championships. Here you will find popular flavors such as chocolate, pistachio, and stracciatella, as well as new and slightly different varieties. All gelatos are lactose- and gluten-free.
3. Snö Gelateria
Vasastan, Täby Centrum, Kvarnholmen, and Hornstull. Here, the ice cream is made fresh every morning, and they offer experimental flavors such as cream cheese with cloudberries, poached pears with gorgonzola, and hazelnut. Family-run for 10 years with Kenneth Erlandsson at the helm.
4. StikkiNikki
Nine gelaterias in locations including the Old Town, Mariatorget, Odenplan, and Drottningholm. Their own production is done in Hjorthagen, where you can also stop by and see the craftsmanship live. A gelato institution in Stockholm that set the trend for the now so popular Italian ice cream. Organic ice cream in small batches that often includes exciting vegan flavors. Here you will find lavender, popcorn, and miso in the assortment, among other flavors.
5. Gelato Scarfò
Ålsten, Bromma. Take the cozy Nockebybanan train out to picturesque Ålsten for a gelato stop where the ingredients are genuine and the gelato is made entirely without additives. The flavors vary daily, and be prepared to wait in line for a while—it's always crowded here! Die-hard Scarfò fans especially praise the licorice gelato.
6. La Gelateria SoFo
Götgatan, Södermalm. Here you will find a unique combination of northern Swedish ingredients and Italian gelato techniques. Classic flavors such as pistachio and limoncello meet Nordic newcomers such as cloudberry, lingonberry, and sea buckthorn. All ice cream is made from scratch in the shop.
7. Lundbergs konditori
Gröndal. Perhaps somewhat unexpected with a plethora of trendy Italian ice cream bars, you will also find award-winning gelato at a classic 1940s pastry shop. Lundbergs has won gold, silver, and bronze in the Swedish ice cream championships, and their stracciatella has been named Sweden's tastiest. The gelato is artisanal, creamy, and perfect to enjoy in the peaceful surroundings of Gröndal.
8. Magnus Johansson Glass & Konfektyr
Hammarby Sjöstad. Star chef guarantee with ice cream made by Magnus Johansson, who has been responsible for dessert at the Nobel Banquet a total of 11(!) times. Some of the most talked-about flavors are chocolate/hazelnut, lemon with white chocolate, and blood orange sorbet. Homemade sprinkles and hand-rolled cones enhance the experience.
9. Gelatonova
Vasastan (Odengatan and Norra Stationsgatan). Makes traditional Italian gelato with unique flavors and twists. How about a hint of crème brûlée, vegan passion fruit, or pistachio with a difference? Here, the nuts are sourced from California instead of the traditional Italian variety.
10. ARYAM
Slussen, Södermalm. Here, organic milk is used and local, locally produced ingredients are selected according to season. Traditional flavors are combined with the different cultural flavors that have influenced Stockholm. Since all gelato is made daily and quality is the main focus, only 8-10 flavors are offered each day, and the flavors change frequently.
